reinstalling apache

I was following the instructions on linuxloader.com to set up a LAMP server on my new Mandrake server. I was trying to setup the virtual hosts and got into a mess so I thought ---- "time to delete some important files!!!!" ------ so I removed httpd.conf. And then I did urpme apache. Then I did urpmi apache. Now apache is broken <lol>
What I'd like to do is start from scratch. How do I get rid of *everything* related to apache on my server (using a sort of apt-get purge hammer) so that I can reinstall and have a virgin apache???

apt-get remove apache
apt-get --purge remove apache
apt-get --reinstall install apache

Pick whichever one works.

Ah. Sorry. I didn't make myself clear. I am using urpmi on Mandrake. I want to do the same using urpmi --- though I might be forced to install apt

OK; I saw the apt-get in there, and didn't read it properly.

It looks like the "good" way with urpmi doesn't exist. Now, here are some suggestions on the "bad" way to do this:

Find the .rpm for your installed version, then try uninstalling and reinstalling through rpm, not urpmi.

If you are having trouble with leftover files, then open the rpm, and use that as a list of files to remove.

Thanks ---- I was just starting to go down that road but perhaps I'll install apt instead. Maybe I should start an "apt vs urpmi" thread
