Reinstallation of all RPM packages

Somehow the rpm software has been corrupted or something very vital is missing.

When the rpm is utilized, the following error message is displayed:

rpm: relocation error: /usr/lib/ undefined symbol: tion

I even tried to reinstall all rpm related packages from Red Hat Linux 9.0 installation CDs, but without any results.

Any idea how I could reinstall all rpm related packages so that I could remove this error?

This kind of error is extremely annoying, because it practically freezes all possible updates.

Perhaps the rpm database is corrupted. Try:

rpm --rebuilddb

See if that helps.

I tried, but the error message remains. The problem is that even typing command 'rpm' (without any options) causes the error message. Have I missed something here? There has to be a way to fix the RPM so that you are able to at least reinstall something.

Regards Sami
