reinstall windows, reinstall GRUB too?
I have a laptop with a dual boot with WIn XP and Fedora Core 3. I need to reinstall Windows because of errors that I just can't seem to fix. It is my understanding that this will wipe out GRUB. What will I have to do to reinstall GRUB?
As much as I do not want to maintain Windows I still rely on it for certain apps. I like the Windows version of Yahoo Messenger because of the voice and cam fuctionality. My girlfriend lives in Yemen and I haven't figured out GnomeMeeting yet... I also need Quickbooks and haven't been able to get Quasar working yet and GNU Cash is not what I am looking for. I also use a Palm Tungsten and love the Avant-go content but see no way to pipe that in through Linux so I sync with Windows for Avant-go and sync with linux for the PIM stuff. My daughter is a MS Presentations addict and I have yet to find a Linux replacement although Scribus shows promise. Hopefully I will soon find Linux apps to replace evrything that I use Windows for, but in the meantime, another reformat... Todd |
Windows will overwrite your MBR and hence grub. You can install grub onto a floppy and then boot from there once XP has ben installed. When you have booted into Fedora using the grub floppy, you can then reinstall grub onto the MBR.
