Did you install mysql from a rpm or was it installed with the system or what? if you have redhat you can pull up a terminal and type in 'rpm -qa > rpm.txt' Then you cat type in 'cat rpm.txt' to see if you see anything about mysql in there if there is then all you have to do is type in 'rpm -e mysql-something' that will remove the mysql program then you could just delete the mysql data directory.

I did a complete install and mysql was included.

mysql is listed in the 'cat rpm.txt' several times

mysql-devel-3.23.52-3
mysql-server-3.23.52-3
php-mysql-3.0.14-8

do I just need to do the rpm -e thing on just the

mysql-server

then what do I do to reinstall that

Thanks

Yes you can do a rpm -e, I would do the devel first then the server. The php-mysql you should be able to leave, when you remove mysql I think it will leave the databases on the drive, on my redhat machines done from rpm install you just have to delete the /var/lib/mysql directory.

Then you can just reinstall the new rpm's if you want to get mysql back up and running
