regarding the installation of software "gOpenmol"

Dear All,

I have installed "gOpenmol" software (application).
Basically,it is quite simple, a precompiled version. I have simply installed it by the command "./install" as per the instructions.

Then we have to run a script "rungOpenMol" in the /bin directory so that we can finally run the software "gOpenmol"!

But, here after this I am getting the following error message :
******************************************
[root@hitchcock bin]# ./rungOpenMol
/home/shantanu/Desktop/gOpenMol-3.00/bin/gopenmol: /home/shantanu/Desktop/gOpenMol-3.00/lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_3.3.1' not found (required by /usr/lib/libX11.so.6)
*******************************************

I checked the gcc version of my machine it is 4.6.3
I also tried installing other gcc_3 versions and libgcc*.

Has anybody from the linuxforum community tackled this problem earlier ?
Please let me know...

Regards,
Shantanu

Welcome to LQ.

Which Linux OS are you using ? Like CentOS5, Fedora 17, Ubuntu 11.10 etc.

( "gOpenmol" opens OK here.)

OK, so /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 requires an object "version `GCC_3.3.1" in:
/home/shantanu/Desktop/gOpenMol-3.00/lib/libgcc_s.so.1

Meaning : This particular version of xorg (libX11.so.6) will not work
with the 'libgcc_s.so.1' that comes with gOpenmol.

Solution : Replace libgcc_s.so.1 with the Fedora 15 version :
cd gOpenMol-3.00/ && cp -a /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 lib/

Fedora 15 is the only OS I found with this issue. All other tested OS's
were OK. (Tested seven other different OS, including Fedora 13, 17.)
( The 64 bits Fedora 15 has the same problem.)

.. And by the way, no reason to run ./rungOpenMol as root. Not required. Not recommended.
