Question Refresh rate - X Windows

Ok I may be asking a silly question here, but how do you change the monitor refresh rate for X Windows? From what I can tell you don't! Does X have a different way of handling it to MS Windows? Do I even need to worry about it?

"how do you change the monitor refresh rate for X Windows?"

You edit /etc/X11/XF86Config. I think that the Red Hat program to do this is called xconfigurator. Or you can use any text editor.

About the refresh rate, you can configure this in section "Monitor" in the file /etc/X11/XF86Config. Do be careful however and look at the monitor's manual. New monitors are protected but older ones could be damaged.

Your distribution undoubtedly also has a tool for configuring X.
