redirecting remote machine audio to local machine


Hi
Is there any way to redirect a remote Linux machine mplayer output audio to local one?

Your bet is to choose one of the audio output drivers capable of sending audio through network. Two of the most common are esd and pulse. See the AUDIO OUTPUT DRIVERS section of the mplayer man page for details.

On the receiver you need an audio daemon listening on the audio port and most likely you have to enable traffic through that port. Take in mind that security must be a concern.

Pulse audio is very easy to use in a networked situation. It only took me a few minutes to get running using the provided settings tools.

(Note that the warning at top is not quite correct. You can use kde3 with pulse, you just can't use the aRts server with it. You have to set kde up to use alsa.)
