REDHAT Linux is crazy!

After logging in , I typed startx to go to GNOME, but failed!
the error is:
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)

I give up!
I tried installing >10 times, all kinds of crazy errors happened!
My CD is pirated one, could be the problem????

Windows XP better!!!!

you can't have a pirate copy of redhat.. linux is free. you can download it for free.. burn a million copies and sell them if you wanted too.. and it still wouldn't be illegal.

if you can't get X working, then most likely its not detecting your video hardware correctly and setting up correctly.
have you looked at www.xfree86.org for info about X ?
what kind of hardware do you have ? that will help us help you.
and my own opinion, XP sucks, I deal with it everyday at my job. its just let me do it for you type OS, and most of the time it doesn't get it right.

my system is,

AMD Duron 1000MHz
Maxtor 40 GB HDD
256 SDRAM
Builtin on board VGA, VIA, 8MB RAM, detected as Trident Blade

i am fedup, wanna burn my computer

trickykid 03-29-2002 10:30 AM

is it a trident blade video card ?? dont always go by the detection of it. if it is and its not working, have you tried a generic driver ? what about xfree86.org and what driver it needs to work.. what does your XF86Config file read ? can you post it here ? what kind of monitor do you have ? did you do the correct refresh rates for it ?

my monitor is LG studioworks,
linux detects it correctly,
refresh rate is set correctly.

i don't know what to do, luckily i still can boot into windows.

plan to give up!!!!

If you just want to get in the in-crowds, give it up. Not worth it.

If you want to learn Linux, stick around.

Windows don't teach you anything new. 10 years from now, you'll know exactly what you know now. Linux teaches you something new every time you try to solve a problem. 10 years from now, you'll probably be a Linux guru.

Go head, give up!

Before you give up, at least give Mandrake a try.

http://www.linux-mandrake.com

You can even download the ISO's.

futurist 03-29-2002 10:11 PM

after typing startx,
this error appears:

No such file or directory (errno 2) : unable to connect to X server

what can i do ?

Aussie 03-29-2002 10:45 PM

Browse over to /var/log/XFree86.0.log and post the error messages that you'll find at the end.

futurist 03-29-2002 11:25 PM

i need solution, can you help me ?

Honestly, I would try Mandrake instead.
