Redhat-Install-Packages Problem

ok i use the gui redhat-install-packages on redhat 9 kernel 2.4.19 FC3 KDE version 3.0 . im having a problem installing rpm's. if im not root it will ask for root password . after i enter the pass it hangs i get no dependency check dialog or qued package install screen "i get nothing" also tried as root "same thing"

"doing as root"

so i tried running it from console "E.G. redhat-install-packages PKG -v -v the output i got was

unknown cddev hdc #cdrom1
unknown cddev hdd #cdrom2

my HD is HDA
my slave is HDB

.. so i tryied running rpm -i mplayer.0.9rc3_i386.rpm -v -v
and i got this

opening db enviorment Var/Lib/Rpm/Packages Joinenv
opening db index Var/Lib/Rpm/Packages rdonly Move=0x0

and then it hangs right there

is it a database problem ?
anyway to purge the DB ?
create a new DB ?

i tryed everything .. i cant install an rpm
everything worked fine untill i tryied to install an mdk rpm on accident . now it doesnt work at all it seems like it hangs also my package manager freezes when creating process headers it locks up .. if anyone knows how i can fix this please help "thanks in advance"
