redhat database ??

i wonder how to check what kind programs is avaiable in my system, like you run redhat-config-packages, it show list of program that i can install, could i do it with rpm -?? it will show me something information about the packages(like what it does, what version, stuff like that )..

well you can type rpm -qa |less if you want to go through them all, or you can single out a specific one if you want and type rpm -qa |grep -i programname ..... obviously switching programname with the actual name of some program....there are alot of options, so just type man rpm to get more ideas
