Unhappy RedHat 9 Installling R : HELP w/ " ...needs 26MB on the / filesystem "

Hi,

I'm trying to install R (statistical programming software)

here's what happens after I type in "rpm -ivh R-1.8.1-2.i386.rpm"

warning: R-1.8.1-2.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 97d3544e
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
installing package R-1.8.1-2 needs 26MB on the / filesystem

I don't know what to make of this, but I'm sure that there must be a simple fix.

I also seem to get a similar warning when I try to install updates to my kernel...
I select the packages I want to upgrade, and I get the following message:

"Test install failed because of package conflicts:
installing package kernel-2.4.20-28.9 needs 11MB on the / filesystem"

I seem to be having memory management issues.
Any help is much MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,

Alexis

How did you partition your install? If you only set up a small / partition, you might be out of space, despite having plenty of space still in another partition, like /home.

This is the most logical reason. 'df' should tell you the whole story. Memory shouldn't be a problem, just hard drive space.
