RedHat 9 and Wine

Hi everyone

Well I intalled the latest Wine and got it to work with the few programs left I have any interest in from Windows. Just a couple of questions and would appreciate any help.

1. How do you get Wine to start up automatically at boot up. So far I have done a wine <Windows program name> from the command line in a terminal. Would like to do it from memory.

2. I put menu entries on my KDE menu, in the format wine </exact path/Windows Program name> . They don't work.

Not a critical issue, just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Thanks for the help.

Jim

Jim,

There is a file in your home directory that is hidden called something like .bash-login. You can put commands in this file that will execute automatically everytime you logon. You could add "wine path-to-program". Hope this helps.

Hey everyone. I just installed RedHat 9 (x86) and am attempting to start Lotus Notes setup (R5):

[mikes@wenf50a mikes] wine W32Intel/Setup.exe

It starts up the setup launcher, saying Lotus Notes Setup is preparing the InstalShield Wizard which will guide you thorugh the rest of the setup process. Please wait...

The progress bar goes to 99%....

Then a blank error message shows up, saying nothing at all but giving me an OK button to click. If I click OK it returns me to the prompt. I sometimes don't click OK but eventually the Lotus Setup window closes, leaving the blank error message dialog box alone.

I tried running wine Notepad.exe from /usr/share/wine-c/windows, and it works decently, but not that great (i.e. I can't type in the window, and sometimes when it exits it gives me the same blank error message).

Anyone know about this error, or what I can do to fix it? So frustrating!!!

Wine version: 20030618, I got from newrpms.sunsite.dk.

as for you mcs, maybe its not fully supported in the default version of wine, and you may need to run it through codeweavers version, which you have to pay for. this version supports basically office programs such as Lotus.
these are the products its mainly built for:

Microsoft Office XP, 2000 and 97

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Powerpoint

Microsoft Outlook *

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Access *

Adobe Photoshop

Microsoft Visio

Lotus Notes

Quicken

the star by the 2 above mean that they are only supported for the office 2000 versions
