Redhat 9 & Realplayer

I have recently upgraded my installation of RH8 to RH9..it went well infact very smoothly. The new user interface is very responsive compared to RH8, however my Realplayer setting (realplayer 8 opensource version rp8.linux20.libc6.i386.cs2.rpm) is not functioning. Can any one point me in the right direction.

If I can get Real player to work an further understand how to launch smb network file/applications without first having to drag items onto my local machine , I will remove the Win2k partition and go total Linux

System
Dual Boot RH9 & Win2k
Toshiba 4600 (700Mhz)
128MB Ram
9.0GB (partitioned)

There is a RealPlayer for RH 9 - although, as I and others have found, it doesn't seem to work.

If there is a way to get it to work, please put the solution on this board - I would love to know how to do it!

you can get realone (rp9) from their website if you look around a bit. best thing to get it to work i'd say is to install it and then make mplayer use the libraries for it, rahter than their crap crap front end. much more reliable

Chris

Your answer seems quite logical and I agree with your comment about the front end, however I would be grateful if you could provide the location on the relevant files and instruction of how to configure mplayer to use the libraries

i don't know where the binary lives on real.com, i don't use realplayer if i can avoid it. but it's there somewhere, as for mplayer, you'd complie it with an otion such as "./configure --with-realdir=/usr/local/RealPlayer9/" I think. check "./configure --help" for the exact option you need. you don't *need* mplayer at all, but the front end Real created for unix is so so uncompatiable and awkward.

Real One is Here

This will take you to the Real forum and will contain the URL for Real One for Linux. I have just installed it and it works. On Red Hat 9.

Read all the posts - the download/install instructions are here - might take a couple of readthroughs (thank you for 'open in new tab' is all I can say)
