Redhat 9.0 XMMS Sound Output
Hi everyone...... I've been running Redhat 9 what... 2 weeks now?
I install the mp123 plugin for XMMS and sound worked fine. However... when I restarted my PC, loaded XMMS and tried 2 play an MP3 all I get is... Please Check that: 1. You have the correct output plugin selected 2. No Other program is blocking the soundcard 3. Your soundcard is configured properly. Okay..... I use the OSS Driver 1.2.7 In the Redhat Control Centre the sound mixer is the Open Sound System. When I do the test sound thing.. it works fine. XMMS is configured properly tho, I have the default Redhat MP1/2/3/ placeholder plugin disabled and the downloaded RPM to enable MP3 support is enabled. What I have found is that... if I right-click an MP3 in the KDE file manager window and choose "open with - audio player" the MP3 will SOMETIMES play in XMMS! Why won't it play when I simply load XMMS and double-click a file? If another application is somehow using my sound card is there any way I can find out what this app is? Another thing I'd like to know is how I can allow my card to work in full-duplex like the soundcards do in WIN2k, where you can listen to an mp3 as well as have other sounds on the go.... Dave. |

Hmm, ta for your help but unfortunately I have no idea what process it would be. I have GAIM loaded and a sec ago when a contact came online it made a bell sound..... then I tried 2 play an MP3 in XMMS and of course.. I got that error message again.
Hmm, I tried the ARTS thing in XMMS, it just caused XMMS to lock up. Basically, when I hit play... the counter stayed on 00:00 and it refused 2 play anything! Needed to use XKILL to get rid of it.. Full-duplex is needed... I used 2 have the same thing happen in like Mandrake 7.0, but I had a diff sound card then. No probs with Mandrake 9.0 tho... apart from the sound quality is worse as the driver is crap! |

Then ARTS is the problem. You choose the ARTS output option in XMMS, well it plays nothing and locks up shortly after!
Get sound in RH9 sorted! I am not the only one to have this problem either, out of the 3 guys who I know use RH9, 2 of them had exactly the same prob. The other....... well, he uses Gnome. |
