RedHat 8.0 - Where is linuxconf?
Please could someone tell me where linuxconf is or what I am supposed to use instead of this in RH8 (and how to get to it!)
Thanks Bluemak |
linuxconf is locked away in a box to neevr be reopened hopefully. it was always a dangerous and unreliable program, and is now no longer used by any distributions afaik.

Thx, so what can I use instead?
|
Im using Gnome BTW. I am aware there is a utility for KDE, is there anything else I can use?

i really couldn't tell you what redhat has now. from what i understand for 8.0 they wrote a bunch of (or renamed a bunch of) programs called redhat-config-something type the first half and press tab to see if the files are on your system and what they are actually called.

Linuxconf is on the Redhat 8.0 install disk you just have to select it to be installed. By default it is not selected to be installed. Check on the Install CDs and see if you can find it there. I know it is because I selected to install it during my installation last week.

sorry can't find it :-(
I ran System Settings > Packages from the menu and looked through all the groups but it wasn't there! :-S |
good!

Dear oh dear.
Just like I would never touch the evil borked distro Redhat 7.2, acid seems to thrive on it. I've never had any trouble from linuxconf at all. The alternative is GConf-editor, which comes with Gnome (but isn't as powerful as linuxconf) :D Q*Bert |
thrive? nah it just sits on my crappy server as i'm not going to reinstall something and risk screwing my server up for a week.

The config programs should be in your menu
