Redhat 8.0 Mplayer problem

Well my problem is running mplayer trying to get streaming video to play

Now I don't understand just a few things about this player.

1. Do I have to have a DVD player installed just to run .avi files or .mpg files from the internet.

2. What decoder do I use for these types of files.

3. I get a message stating the ERROR in selecting video output device.

4. Now this computer I have is running a rage 32mb video card and also only has a cd player and is a 630mhz celeron cpu with 192 mb ram.

5. If I dont meet the hardware standards just let me now I have 3 other computers in the house that are far better than this one...

well got to go....

1) mplayer does it all, dvd, streaming, what have you...its not like its a bunch of different players packaged together. Its one app.

2) depends on the file, mplayer by default IIRC has most of the windows codecs built in

3) What's the message and how are you running mplayer? did you read the documentation on how to use it?

4-5) Your hardware is fine. As long as its set up properly.
