Question RedHat 7.x video problem

Hello all,

A little history:

PC configuration just in case:
-ASUS P3BFMotherBoard
-Matrox MGA 200 8Mb
-PS/2 Logitech Mouse
- Monitor Philips 17B 17"

What I am trying to do is resolving a video problem and these are the steps I followed.

I installed RedHat 7.0 (Red Hat 6.2 worked fine) but since the very first screen during installation, my mouse pointer is surrounded by a 2x2 cm. box filled with coloured lines and while I move the mouse other lines appear around the screen.

Since I had RH 7.1 I installed it and:
During installation no problems (all cards and monitor type is found)
When I startx I have the same problem as in 7.0

What did I do to solve the problem:
-Replaced the PS/2 mouse with a regular serial mouse and reconfigured the system (same problem)
-used Xconfigurator (same problem)
-Modified my mem videocard amount to all possible values (same problem)
-Modified my monitor type to a regular SVGA (same problem)

The only way I don't get those weird lines is the following config:
- standard VGA card.
- 480 video resolution.

Does anybody have a hint?

Best Regards,

Probably a problem with the hardware cursor being enabled, which conflicts with some graphics chipsets. Here's a link from dealing specifically with Matrox cards:

Thumbs up problem solved

I just had to add the line
VideoRam 8192 to my xf86config-4 since Xconfigurator failed to probe for it
(and it didn't say so)
