RedHat 7.3 w/ 2.4.19 Kernel - Internet Config!

Hi, i just got redhat, and then firstly updated the kernel. Now i have a winmodem and so had to get winmodem drivers which all went well, bit by bit i got more and more stuf in the PPP log (using KPPP in KDE!)

however, it does not ocnnect, i have a feeling it, NEARLY connects, but unfortunatele that just doesnt cut the mustard when it comes to surfing the net

this is what i get from the log window just before it stops and the current process and starts over!

What modem is it?

JafferAB 09-21-2002 08:11 AM

its a Conexant HSF Winmodem - Data/Voice/Fax

linux sees it as Conexant LinModem - Data, once the appropriate drivers are installed (from http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/)

Can you post the PCI ID for the device?

JafferAB 09-23-2002 05:15 AM

what do you mean, you mean the PCI slot number the card is in ? if so its in slot no.1 (the one directly BELOW the AGP port)

Aussie 09-23-2002 05:37 AM

No you get the PCI ID of the card by doing "lspci -vv" as root, also it's not a good idea to have a card in slot one as it normally shares an IRQ with the agp slot and agp cards don't like sharing, try moving it to another slot.

Which hcfpcimodem package are you using? If you downloaded one for your distro, it'll have become out-dated when you upgraded your kernel - fix this by using one of the "generic" rpms instead - then hcfpciconfig will build drivers compatible with your kernel.

its the HSF packages i need, which i used, and i used the TAR package, and installed it manually cause there wasnt a package for 2.4.19 yet. The drivers should be fine (i say should). Linux recognised a installed modem, installed properly!

Ah well....there we go then :)
Have you considered getting a new mobo? or an external modem?

JafferAB 09-24-2002 01:18 AM

i have considered getting anew mobo but at christmas. And to be honest thats a very bad suggestion :D doesnt help, im gonna get this one working! :)

Faecal 09-24-2002 05:33 AM

Well if the modem drivers are installed properly and just not working, you should direct your questions to the hsflinux mailing list - find it on the same website that you got the driver from.

ok then :)
