Redhat 7.1 and Suse 7.3 installation problem

I have been having some problems installing both Redhat 7.1 and Suse 7.3. During the installation i've tried creating a boot floppy so that i could boot the operating system, but at the end of the operation when its finished installing and is about to reboot it freezes and this happens everytime. It happens with redhat too. Is this because i'm creating the boot disk and not installing the kernal to the MBR? I'm so lost and getting really frustrated.

What i'm running:
Athlon XP 1800
256DDR
Nvidia Gforce2
20gig hard drive

Need help big time.

The creation of boot floppy shouldn't matter. You don't need to install LILO/GRUB in MBR (many people install them on floppies).
Have you tried to reboot your machine when it hangs and boot it from the floppy? If the floppy is written correctly, it should work and bring you your system (something may be not configured, but most things should work).

ya i've tried...but it always ends up freezing again. First when i reboot it goes into yast or whatever so i can configure my monitor, and other devices, but then when they are installed it freezes again before it has a chance to reboot, then when i hit reset i get a kernel error.

Which kernel error? It's quite important. Could you write it down?
