Redhat 7.1 and OpenSSH

I am upgrading OpenSSH from an older version (2.5.2) on RedHat 7.1 running on a i686. Of course when I download the rpm it asks for all sort of other packages that it relies on. Would it be possible to download and compile the newest version of OpenSSH instead of using the rpm's?

I seem to be having problems downloading the packages from RedHat... Where else can I get them.

Thanks

Your probably going to have to install a lot of rpm's or run into dependencies.. your best option is to download the source and install by those means to find out what dependencies you might need.

Personally your better off trying to find already precompiled RPM's that someone compiled against Redhat 7.1 to upgrade which might be difficult considering 7.1 is almost 4 years old now... or your better off just updating your whole OS.

I've run into the same problem with openSSH for LynxOS. It requires perl and that's where we run into problems. I think the question is the same, where can you get a version of openSSH that you can build that does not require other packages like perl to implement?
