Red Hat Ghost image
I am trying to dump an image file from my Red Hat web server to a Windows server running symantec ghost, and for some reason I can't get a good image. The image creates and loads fine, but when I load the image to a new server (identical hardware), it only gets to the first line of the boot sequence then freezes.
Is there something I need to do to prepare the Linux server to be ghosted? Does anyone have any experience ghosting Linux?
Thanks in advance!

well I use Norton Ghost enterprise 8 at work and I caputre RHEL, CentOS and Fedora Core 3/4/5 images without issue ...
something esle you might consider trying it G4L if it's just for this one server and it's not something you need to do on a wide scale
http://www.yourhowto.org/content/view/54/9/
you can do it with PXE boot or CD-rom boot ... whatever you want.

So there is nothing special I need to do to ghost this server? Since I have just been asked to ghost it (I am not the admin of this server) all I am really allowed to do at this point is a reboot. Any idea what might be wrong with my image?

I understand you correctly, it sounds like the image is created and restored properly.
You just can't get the new system to boot after the image is put on the new box. right ??????
If that is the case, you likely just need to install the grub ( boot loader ) onto the mbr of the new system.

that maybe a soluation but the whole idea of ghost is it caputres the whole image, including grub.
past a boot log of your server up here, show us what happens when the server boots.
Also have you tried taking it off the network and puttting it on the network when you start it up? it might have conflicts like same hostname that are causing problems, or it might have dependices like looking for ldap users when it starts up.

Basicly all it does after I restore the image to a different computer, is display "LI" and freeze up there. I will try booting it not connected to the network.

i think there is some problem with your Boot Loader so you should Boot your Server using RedHat`s first boot CD in rescue mode and then reload the GRUB,.
grub-install /dev/hda or sda whatever it is
it should work ,...
