Red Hat 9.0 Instillation problem

The problem is: I am trying to install linux on a brand new machine without anything on it the harddrive is empty and everything is clear, i am using RedHat 9.0 on 3 cds and when i try to install it gives the error:

Code: 8b 42 10 8b 40 30 ff 74 24 10 ff 74 24 10 52 ff 10 83 c4 0c
<0>Kernal panic: Attempted to kill init!

I tried using the command linux mem=256 noprobe and just linux noprobe and linux lowres but it goes to a screen that says:

"Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel."

Then it just sits there. I let it sit there at that screen for a whole day and nothing happened. What is my problem?

I'm having the exact same problem. Have you been able to figure anything out? I've searched everywhere I can think of for an answer.

If you mean the "linux mediacheck" (or is it "checkmedia"?) option, I tried it and I still get the same "kernal panic: attempted to kill init" message.

Maybe I should try a different distro than Red Hat?

If the istallation cd's passed the checkmedia Test

There might be some hardware issues with the following..

1) CD - DRIVE

* if u burned the iso images at a very high speed they may be corrupted..

* try booting the installation cd through the drive that burned the CD's..

*if the former fails obviously through a secondary cd drive if u have one...

2) HARD DISK [Change the harddisk..]

3) RAM... [Change the harddisk..]

I had the same problem... i solved by checking the above...

I dont know what made the installation successful... but one of the above described methods worked...

Good luck !!!!!
