Red Hat 7.3 - Downloaded version vs Pkg.

howdy,

I've a very fundemental question. Is there is a big difference between a downloaded version and a packaged version( which we can get from stores ), in Red Hat ?

My understanding is the downloaded version is not supported by Red Hat. But apart from that is there is a possibility that they don't include some software/utilities in the free/downloadable version ?

I hope this is not possible under open-source laws.

thanks,
kramer.

Well if you buy it this is what you will get:

1) The RedHat installation CDs
2) Support
3) Documentation Manauls
4) Some extra software CDs, that you can probably download, ex. Staroffice.

Check out their site, and they tell you exactly what you get if you buy the package:

http://www.redhat.com/software/linux/7-3_personal.html
http://www.redhat.com/software/linux...fessional.html

Those two links take you to the personal and professional verions of RedHat. To the right you will find a list of what each package contains.

Bascially I think most people buy the package for the manuals, since I think the support is not unlimited. You get 30 day web based insallation support, but then again I could be wrong.
