Recurring garbled sound every 60 seconds XMMS Player

Playbacks on XMMS of differently recorded source files (MP3/Wav/off) all start OK for about 20 seconds then the sound becomes noticeably garbled--still recognizable but very distorted-- for about 10 seconds. The cycle then repeats about every minute. My sound "card" is part of the motherboard and works fine for test sounds. I sent a question to SUSE as part of the 90 day service with my 9.0 package--no reply but it has only been 2 days. Any ideas?

Ya, I noticed the same thing. I have just installed Linux and put the 2.6 kernel on with ALSA drivers so I can't tell if it's something wrong I did with my kernel upgrade or if it's an XMMS problem. Actually, it must be XMMS because .avi's play properly. It almost sounds like the music is speeding up and getting "squished" (and distorted) then it returns to normal.

I had the *exact* same problem - very frustrating!

Turns out I was using the wrong output plugin. Go to preferences, and the audio i/o tab, and try a few out until you find one that works.

Hope this helps.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I tried changing my output module but I only have one - OSS driver. So I will take a look for some other output drivers and it would be even better if I can get an ALSA one.

Thanks again.

Changed Output to ALSA--Worked

Thanks. I changed from an OSS output under preferences to ALSA 1.2.8--that seems to work.

Glad that it's working now, JeffW. :)

jonno, I think there are some plugins at xmms.org
