Recovering partition
Is there a way in linux to recover information from a partition which has somehow lost its file system?
I have a drive that crashed hard. Both WinXP and Linux think the drive is just RAW, but there _was_ informatoin on it. Is there a way to restore the file system table so I can access the files? I am using Slack 10.0, the drive I am trying to recover is /dev/hdb7. Thanks! |
I got my hands on Partition Magic, thought it might have a recovery tool. Doesn't appear so.
Anyone have any suggestions? |
Does partition magic see it as "raw" also? You should be able to write new lable or merge it without losing the data.

PM sees it as "unformmated"
You suggest I "Merge" it with a partition that is still okay? *EDIT* Just attempted to "merge" the partitions though PM. I get an error saying that it doesn't see 2 partitions that it can properly merge. |
Hmmm. Unformatted. Don't know what you can do then. I have never googled for data recovery programs, but might be an idea if that data is important.

i just used r-linux www.r-tt.com
it runs from windows and seems ok but some recovered files a re reported as only 0kb you will need to put the drive in another machine as a slave tho' good luck BoX |
