recovering graphical interface ubuntu

hi,
I have been using my linux windoz laptop double booth no problems until now...
I dont know what I did or happened, but now the graphical part of the laptop doesnt work in kubuntu

1. my cd is not working!!(hardware problem so I cannot get the cd to do a recovery)
2. I have tried booting from usb but not succesfull yet,

the problem:
when I start kubuntu, it goes to graphical but shows errors and goes to shell, asks me for login,
after login

I get this messages>
reloading /etc/samba/smb.conf smbd only
(dont need samba now!! is this the problem??)
reloading system log daemon...
(I hit enter after waiting lots and goes to command prompt $)

I have tried startx (get error)
so I get out of graphical??? ctl+alt+f1
and goes back to shell

- how can I fix my graphical session??
-how to get rid of the samba error?

tnx

Hi,

Go to the command prompt and please see the log files.

/var/log/messages

Also see if you have any thing rc.local file or bashrc files, thats preventing the login.

Also stop the samba service.

hi, thank you
if I check /var/log/messages no file there
!!
think it was deleted by accident?? before (edited, typing message)

so I reboot
see the kubuntu graphical starting
then see the reading, loading [ok]
stops in fsck 1.41.4 (27-jan-2009) for a long time!
continues with loading [ok]

kinit: no resume image, doing normal boot...

and login

but goes to shell !

hi, did it
in sudo,
it looked fine no errors
but after startx
it went black and showed
compName@user:/usr/sbin$

and frozen there

hit ctrl+alt+f1

get xkeyboard (xkbcomp) reports: warning: typer "one_level" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols Ignoring extra symbols
errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the x server

ctlr+c

xinit:unexpected signal2
and goes to shell,

thank you
