Recover linux partitions

Dear all,
my hard disk looks at bad shape. So I have removed it from my laptop and I was able to rescue the complete ntfs partition. Now I can see more damaged partitions and I would like a tool (preferably that runs in windows and linux) that would allow to see inside these ext4 partitions.

Do you have anything in mind?

Regards
Alex

Maybe use a 'live' distro to mount it(?) if you can, if not make an image backup of it with ddrescue, & loop mount it to recover files. (Photorec would be the software, I think.)

If here "bad shape" means it's failing then I suggest you make a backup of the partitions you haven't rescued / triaged yet and before doing anything else.

Linux Reader may be what you are looking for. It can copy files from ext3 and ext4 partitions to Windows partitions. I've used it on windows 7 and 8.1, and it has worked for me. Freeware, by the way.

Good luck.

It can not read the disk unfortunately. Something looks to be damaged there...
Any other recover program available?

Possibly a better solution would be to use a 'live' Linux distro, that way you will have a better chance of recovering files. Use a copy of your disk image so that you can try various tools, & if you should ruin it, you can just create another copy & try again.

(I would try a loop mount of the disk image first.)
