Recover files from damaged SD card

I have an SD card that is unreadable. When I tried to download the images from my digital camera it would not read the card. I have used some Windows packages to see if the files are recoverable and most of the files can be recovered. I want to use my Linux machine (SuSE 10.1) to try and recover it. I don't feel like paying $$$ for this. Can anybody help?

Try testdisk, and maybe gpart.
