Recording radio stream

Hi guys, I am using a Mandravia 10.1 distribution and playing my favourite live audio stream with Totem.

I used to have a tool on my windows box called "Freecorder" where I could simply hit record and the stream would be reocrded in live stream and saved as mp3

I have been looking for two hours now for something similar to record music on my Linux box.

I saw Audacity has a record feature but as soon as I start it I receive an I/O error "Audacity will not be able to playback or record audio"

When I try to select a sound device in the preferences, they are blank and there is nothing to select.

Please help me ! And keep in mind I am a complete Linux n00b. I don't know jack about command line stuff or how to compile tarballs.

Thanks so much.

I use StreamTuner for internet radio stream searching and playing, and it also supports recording streams.

You could give that a shot. Even if it's recording function isn't what you are looking for, it is still a great way to browse and search for streams.

Okay I tried to install it.

Found the RPM for my dist. but it comes up with the following error:

"Some package requested can not be installed Streamtuner.blahblah" ( Due to unsatisfied libcurl.so.2 )

I am about to go postal. Nothing on Linux works rightaway .. programs crash .. error messages everywhere ..

Okay sorry for the bitchin' but I have been using Windows over the past 10 years so I am used to comfort lol

Any suggestions guys ?

MP3Record works fairly well. It is a command live app. It records the output from the PCM channel. Very easy to use. Just have to hit enter key unless you want to save it somewhere else. Can be found here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp3record/

According to that error, you need to install libcurl.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions :)

I have decided it's not worth the hassle though. I will stick to my WXP box to record audio, since I have all my editing tools like Cubase installed there anyways.

So I will just play the streams in WMplayer and use Freecorder to record them. It's two clicks and I have my 128Bit streams recorded and can simply load them into Cubase with one more click.

Would have been nice to do that on the notebook and under Linux, but .. oh well. I already said in another thread that I am starting to grow grey hairs with some stuff regarding Linux hehe. So why bother when everything works exactly the way I want it to be on my WXP box.

Thanks guys ^.^
