Question Recording process activities (how?)

If I want to know what commands a process has invoked or where a process put their files ( recording its activities, in general), what can i do in linux?

Is there such a software that allows me to do this?

what about information from /proc
/proc/<process id> stores filehandles, libraries, memory, executable ,etc information about the process.
