Record WMV streams with VLC 1.1.11

How does one record a WMV/WMA stream with VLC 1.1.11? This tutorial assumes an older version of VLC; VLC 1.1.11 doesn't have a record button or an ability to save streams that I know of. Thanks

I had to save the stream to a file and then export the stream to an ASF file. Then it worked!

Actually, this worked the best because there was no recompression (transcoding), as long as the input stream matches the codec:
Code:
vlc http://url.of.WMV.file.com/WMV_file.asx --sout=file/asf:out.asf --sout-display
" --sout-display" will display the stream as it records it to the out.asf file. Cf. this and this.
