recopmpiling the kernel (knoppix 3.9)

i'm trying to install a new driver on knoppix 3.9 but when i try to install it. It says that i must recompile the kernel first by using the libarnet adminmenu. but i can't find any way to get to the adminmenu (i don't think it's even on the cd) or find another way to recompile it

please help because if i can't get this to work i will have no choice but to use windows it make me sick just thinking about it!

You only can compile kernel if your Linux's installed on harddisk. In this case, you're using Knoppix which run on CD so it can't be

Not true...you could use unionfs, toram, and /config option for persistant home directory and do apt-get upgrades and install software from the repositories.
toram just loads the cd to ram for faster operation but I would reccommend 1g of ram or more to use and thus free up a cd drive.
makeing a persistant home directory will allow things to be saved at reboot.
unionfs makes the cd live and ready for software installs and what not.

But if you need to upgrade the kernel and have knoppix on hard drive already there are plenty of how to's across the net and at the knoppix forums....its quite easy by the way.
