Reconfiguring wine

I messed up the wine config and now it doesn't have a "C:\" set up.
I tried adding the "C:\" using winecfg but its not seeming to stick. When I hit apply/cancel and rerun winecfg, its gone.
I tried dpkg-reconfigure wine, but it didn't help.
Is there an alternative to purging and reinstalling wine?

EDIT: Debian stable, Gnome

I recommend renaming the user's wine setup folder: "mv ~/.wine ~/" so you can still access the old configuration (and programs and things that have been installed on the now unaccessible drive C: ). I do that generally for broken/bad configurations. Wine will create a new one.
I tried dpkg-reconfigure wine, but it didn't help.
Yes, the wine windows drive management is not stored globally, but individually for each user, somewhere in the folder ~/.wine .

Yup. I got rid of ~/.wine/ and it fixed itself.

config, configuration, purge, wine
