recompiling software

Well I am trying to use cdp in redhat 9 to play audio cds. My cdrom is located in /dev/cdrom1. The man page for cdp says that it will play from the directory /dev/cdrom only unless you soft link your current cdrom directory to that or you can change it in hardware.c . My question is this, how can I recompile after I change that line in hardware.c? Also this command was installed with the distro. Thanks for any help!

P.S. I know the soft link is probably easier but I want some practice recompiling existing programs...

You'll want to get the RH source rpm for the program,
I'd say, otherwise your rpm database would be out
of sync...

man rpm
for what to do once you have it :}

Cheers,

Ok well I installed and did all the source rpm stuff. I also changed the line in hardware.c so that it looks for /dev/cdrom1 and when I type cdp at the command line nothing happens I just get another prompt. What is wrong now? Thanks
