recompiled kernel uses more power???

ok I compiled kernel for my Toshiba laptop and it is using more power now. One of the many things I changed(got rid of a bunch of modules for hardware I dont have) I compiled Preemptible Kernel support in it and also Preempt the Big Kernel Lock. Could these increase the battery drain? Basically Im looking to run this thing on battery as long as I can.
Also I got a message during boot saying something to the effect:
raidautorun: failed to start device /dev/md05: 6
Said something like that. any help on what that is?

Thanks for any help,

if i were you, i'd try to recompile it without the stuff you added in...
then use that one when battery power is important, but when it's hooked up to a wall, use the one with Preemptible Kernel support in it and also Preempt the Big Kernel Lock.
just somthing to try...
