Kate is even better than Notepad++. I like GEdit as well, but I don't see as many creature-comfort features in it.

I can get Notepad++ to ALMOST do what Kate can do for me, but that requires several plugins that get deprecated and break the Notepad++ install...

General for various languages, mostly C++ and php but html too and even more basic stuff like css. I like having 1 text editor for everything. Honestly Kate is what I keep going back to, that NFS issue is just really annoying, but oddly it seems to be less bad now. I did lot of reorganizing on my NAS not that long ago and my development stuff is on a raid 10 array now and it seems to more or less be usable, I only really notice the delay if I hold down a key. Even over VPN it's actually not too bad. Touch wood... I think with all this, I may just go back to Kate.
