recieving call while using internet

do we have any software in linux which notifies us if we recieve a telephone call on the line ,which we are using for internet .
like windows XP has inbuilt feature for that .

For receiving, nothing I'm aware of.
However, for calling you might like to take a look at Skype,

Are you talking about ICM? I emailed them. They were polite and told me I'd miss out on great non-linux things. There was a guy on NS ( where the ICM software actually cam e about) who hacked something on the command line, but I don't know the status of the project.

Internet Call Manager Put those words in a google search (and maybe with your phone company's name too) and you'll get a lot of info about it, sort of. Sold by agents, so to speak. Its a feature like caller ID. My phone company offered it as well as a local ISP. There's another called Pagoo.

I'm curious as to how Windows XP does this automatically. I've never seen this feature without a third-party software like ICM, Pagoo, or Callwave.

i got know how it is done
actully it is not the propetry of windows Xp but it depends on the modem chipset
the people at my ISP told me that my modem will disconnect me if it was V.92 chipset based,mine is v.90 so it can't be disconnected without any software or ISP support

Actually, they are only 1/2 right, from what I see. V92 protocol will allow you to take a call for up about a minute without disconnecting from the internet, but you need the software to make it work. V 90 won't. That is true. If you simply want a "caller ID" feature with the opportunity to disconnect and take the call, then the software I mentioned is what you need. Problem: Linux users are on their own. There was no such software the last time I checked, unfortunately. That wasn't such a problem for me, as I connected with my windows computer and networked it with the Linux computer and connected to the internet through the Windows box, through Windows ICS. If your phone company offers something like a "lite" version of DSL, you may want to consider that to connect (if its a cost issue). Then you won't need the feature anyways.

but i have seen that these ICM so not work in all countries, i will have to get the ones supported by my ISP , i got to see many ICMS and they work in US or CANADA
well any way thanks a lot for ur help ,i have no option here but to use this modem only the way it is.....

more update on this

i have come to know that i can upgarde my modem from V.90 to V.92
but i cannot find a driver for that nor for windows or linux
i found some on modmsite.com but that was not free

hope to get it elsewhere
