use RealVNC and works great between Suse VNC Client to Windows VNC Server.
However, I tried tomake it work wiht Suse VNC Client to a Suse VNC server (diiferent comuter) and all I see is the Xwindows gray page. I uninstalled the original tightvnc and installed RealVNC.
I start by running vncserver. Then run vncviewer.
Why am I not seeing my KDE Desktop? Also it shows me the GNOME login screen when I fireu vncviewer.

Last month, I had occasion to spend quality time w/ RealVNC, TightVNC, and UltraVNC (also open-source.) UltraVNC, which is also available for Linux (unfortunately I didn't have time to try it), was the best and most stable of the three. Has integrated file transfer (not avail w/ the free RealVNC and in beta for TightVNC), is easier to go back-and-forth bet full-sceen mode and scaled screen mode, and has the best user-interface functions and controls by far. However, RealVNC has a big edge WRT encrypted connections.
Concerning your current issues, I noticed when mixing diff VNC clients and servers, they behave differently concerning whether wallpaper is sent from server to client. HTH....
