Realplayer plugin problem

I've seen a bunch of posts here about Realplayer, so I hope this isn't redundent.

I've got a RH9 box with Netscape 7.1 as my browser. I have installed Realplayer 8; however, it does not show up in my plugin list of the browser. I have tried to uninstall and the PC tells me it's not installed. I tried re-installing and the PC tells me it's already installed.

How confusing is that?

Anyway, it would be great to listen to radio and watch video clips. When I try to look at clips, I get a weird symbol icon and the offer to download the plugin, which is like deja vu all over again.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

You should search for "rpnp.so" using find or locate and copy it to /path_to_netscape/plugins/ - depends on the distro, haven't used RH in a while.

Sounds like you did'nt check the box to tell Real Player to install the plugin. No biggie though go to /usr/lib/RealPlayer and copy the rpnp.so file to your netscape plugin directory

Hi, sidboyce...

I have located the file in several different plugin directories including some hidden ones in the user diretories.

Still doesn't work....

Thanks for replying.

Two in one day, I should take more vacation time!

I downloaded the RPM software and renamed it as you need to do.

Then I ran the rpm with the --force option.

This took care of the problem of the computer telling me it was already installed/not installed. THIS time when the dialogue window opened up I made sure that the proper check boxes were checked.

What threw me on this was this weird business of not being able to uninstall or reinstall. Next time I know to use the --force option.

Thanks to everybody, I hope this can help someone else with the same problem.

Bill
