I have recently installed Fedora Core 4. I noticed that all video clips is not supported by the Helix player and have tried to install RealPlayer 10. I believe I followed the installation instructions correctly and all seemed to go well. I still encountered some problems though.

When I try to start a video clip from e.g. service.real.com/test
...the Helix player starts and not the RealPlayer. Helix doesn't support the file format and asks me to download RealPlayer - which I already have.

Also, I cannot find any icon for RealPlayer and it hasn't showed up in the audio/video drop down.

If this helps to find an answer - here is the installation log for RealPlayer.

It sounds strange, real should replace helix while you install it.
However, why don't you do [/code] rpm -e helix [/code]
and the reinstall real ?

This site says you need to remove HelixPlayer because it interferes with RealPlayer.

I am totally new to linux (and not really good at computers at all) so what you just asked me to do doesn't say me much.
But still, I did my best and assume that it should go into the terminal window. I got back that the helix package is not installed.

"rpm -e helix" does not work because "helix" is not the correct name of the HelixPLayer package. The command should have been "rpm -e HelixPlayer".

Thank you Dai and TruongAn! Dai's link to the Fedora Core installation notes worked splendid. RealPlayer starts automatically now when I click on a video link.

Oops, sorry for the mistake, it was a long time since I removed helix and I forget it name.
So, try the command daihard suggest, take care about the case, linux is case sensity .
You can find all the package the have the word "elix" in its name using :
This command is useful to find the exact name of the package.

I hear ya. I would have thought it was "helixplayer" had I not known that some packages have weird names.

rpm -e HelixPlayer
don't even bother with Realplayer. Its terrible. Instead get mplayer, mplayerplug-in, live555, and gxine. You'll be a happy camper.
