Real Player Cannot open the audio device Error
 

Hi all,
I have been using RealPlayer for quite a while now with no worries but after a recent re-install of Fedora C5 I am continuously getting the

"Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it"error.

In the past ,on this computer I have had no problems with any audio
format and have used it(RP) for streaming.

I am running no new apps that I have not used with RP in the past.
All other audio functions are working OK.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Maybe some other application is really using the sound card :)

Try this

$ ps -ef |grep artsd
$ killall -9 artsd

[if artsd is running it may block realplay sometimes,
thought am not sure why]

Or search for some esound and try stopping it.

If that doesnt work post the output of
$ ps -ef

- zulfi

I had never heard of artsd till now , another new and strange adventure :-). You have definitely pointed me to the right area.I might have a artsd/ESD conflict , thanks again for the hint.
