You should be able to configure which plugin is used for various mime-types in your Firefox Settings > Content > File Types. If you have the mplayer plugin installed, there should be a whole slew of types in there.
You can also right click on the mplayer interface whenever the plugin is playing something and call up its settings, where you can check off the various media types you want it to handle.
If nothing else works, try removing the mplayer plugin completely. Then it should default to real for everything.
