reading /var/log/messages through program

Hi all,
I want read the Linux /var/log/messages through C program whenever the new messages comes in to the /var/log/messages , please tell me how to go about this

Well, you could open a pipe to the cmd 'tail -f /var/log/messages', or read the src for tail.

as data only goes to messages from syslog, you'd be better off hooking directly into syslog.
