Reading *.gp4 and *.gp3 files (guitar pro) under Linux?
 

Hi, I'm looking for a software for linux that will read Guitar Pro 3 and Guitar Pro 4 files, so I could read these guitar chords and play them in Linux.
Is there such a thing? if so, please tell me about it.

i'm not familiar w/guitar pro, but, do you have any export file type options? is it used for tablature only? a guitar search at sourceforge turned up quite a few programs, i'm thinking you may be able to export the native file format to something more usable.

I am developing a JAVA Guitar Pro Viewer
 

I have checked for similiar GTP,GP3,GP4 viewers and printers but have not found one yet.

So I decided to Develop a JAVA GTP VIEWER, any help or list of most important features will be apreciated.

One the viewer/printer is done it may be extended to a full editor,player and even WAV sequencer...but i dont know if i have the time.

You can always EXPORT your GTP file...to MIDI and listen to it or edit it with your favorite LINUX MIDI player/editor

im in the same situation. My band uses guitar pro (i introduced it) but theyre computer idiots. we have a ton of songs...itll just get confusing to have them convert it to .mid or something for me before they send it.

I have received a GP4 file format description (from the GuitarPro developers) but is in French,

I am developing a JAVA application to interpret those files but a lot of work/help is needed.

i only know C++....but i am interested in helping in any way...although you know once it gets done, theyll release gpro for linux...

also, try using winex with Tmidity. someone on another forum did get it with audio, but it clicks as u add more instruments...but he figured out that u need a simple MIDI prog in linux ....any takers? my linux drive is gone

My whole band use the program but I've recently moved over to linux. One of the key elements is that the fingerings are kept intact, which doesn't happen if you convert to .mid
Otherwise a complex tab will take most of the time working out how to play it instead of just learning it.

anyone try the Tmidity remedy yet? i havent had a linux install lately

Well I have a couple of news about this subject:

- KGuitar supports GP3 format, so far i have not tested it KGuitar Home Page
- I am looking for some one to translate a FRENCH file that describes the Guitar Pro 4 file format to ENGLISTH or SPANISH if you want to help me with these download it from here Guitar Pro 4 file format description in FRENCH

- I have contacted the people of KGUITAR telling them i want o help but i have not received answer about this.

- I you guys know of any good OPEN SOURCE MUSIC NOTATION software let me know. It will be easier to create a IMPORT plugin for that program that it is to create a NEW one.

kguitar did describe a lib on sourceforge for GP4, but ive heard its prety useless.

I've tried installing Kguitar, though it's not working at all. Says

configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check current installation and add the correct paths.

What paths, to what includes, and how do I find them. At least if i get Kguitar running I can convert gp4s to gp3s using guitar pro @ one of my windows systmes.

Does it only work under KDE? Using GNOME atm.

Just a heads up, GTP3 works just fine with wine I haven't got 4 to be able to try it, but I use GTP3 all the time on my SuSE box.

GP3 kinda sux though, most tabs nowdays are .gp4 :(
