I am in Slackware 10 running kernel 2.6.7. Me and my roomate have been trying to connect via rdesktop to a Windows 2003 server we put up because VMWare isn't making us very happy.
Well anyways, sound is not working at all on redesktop. Another weird thing, when we go into Windows Control Panel to see if it is muted, it is. We unmute it, click apply, then it mutes it again. It's using the RDC Sound Emulation so it *should* work I would think.
This sounds like a Windows 2003 problem, I doubt it is though. something with rdesktop I think. Anyone have a clue what is wrong?
If you want sound to work, you will have to go to Terminal Services Configuration / Connections under Start/Programs/Administrative Tools. Right click RDP-Tcp under Connections and then select the Client Settings tab. Near the bottom will be a catagory that says Disable the following: Uncheck Audio mapping. Sound should now work.
Also, you have to be using rdesktop 1.3 in order to get sound.
Another solution that i have discovered is that under administrative tools in the terminal server, we also have to enable audio redirection and when we execute rdesktop, we have to include the perimeter -rsound.
been having the same issue..got a bit curious and ran it through the command line seems it works fine..the sound, redirection all of it..just a matter of getting the command line right.. dont have this issue with when using krdc and opensuse. been trying out the new version fedora..seems the krdc package doesnt work right with windows 2003 server and audio redirect. works fine though by running rdesktop without the gui interfaces.. try out rdesktop -r sound:local <server name>
