Lightbulb rc.local solves a common problem

If you have an unsatisfactory system that needs to have the same mysterious command(s) run every time it boots, try this:-
  • Find rc.local, its in /etc/rc.d/
  • open it in an editor, as root
  • insert the command you want to run, at the end of the file
  • save it
  • set its access permissions to be an executable
  • done it !
Now, the next time you boot you machine it will automatically run the command at the end of the boot process.

That's not going to apply to a lot of distro's. You would use systemd, if your talking about a lot of mainstream distro's. So that would only apply to *some* distro's.

I have been using Slackware so long that I forgot about systemd. Can someone describe the systemd equivalent ?

Looks like the best systemd way of doing it, is by creating a systemd "service". You can also enable the "rc.local" systemd service and make your "rc.local" file executable.
