I am using Fedora Core 1 and Gimp 1.3.
I would like to use the dcraw and rawconvert plugin for Gimp but according to the directions it does not work... just a bunch of errors. Anybody have this same issue? Ideas?
Using Canon d30.
what are the errors... I'm using dcraw on a linux box and it works fine. Is it dcraw that you can't get to compile (I'm assuming these are the errors compile errors)... tell me what you did or are doing, and I'll try to help. I shouldn't say it works error free... I'm having trouble processing 48 bit images, but I don't think that's dcraw's fault, I think I'm doing something wrong in the gimp.
Well after some goffing around with it and looking at it logically I got it to work. Now Gimp 1.3 will import in directly the image... but it is not the way I shot it. I have found that I can get some nice effects this way....
I can import directly into the Gimp with the gimp plugin, but if I try to process it into a 48 bit ppm or psd file (option 3 or 4 at the command line) it gives me a "PNM: invalid number" error when trying to open the image in Gimp. (by the way I think you and I are the only ones using dcraw on this forum. I posted another help.. and it's the first time I've ever not had anyone say anything... Cold.
Are you able to process your raw images into 48 bit ppms and then open them in the gimp (it should look dark but be higher quality.
It is really dark but not hard to fix with levels...
LOL, you are right... we are the only ones talking about dcraw!!
MMM... invalid number...
did you know that on the draw site that he has a plug in for gimp to import RAW files in directly... no command line?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEVER mind... just read your reply again....
duh!.....
Not wanting to act like a newb, but where can I get the GIMP plugin, and how do I install it. Can't seem to find it! Have a nice shiny Pentax *ist D camera to play with!
you can go to the dcraw web site.. http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/
There is a link for the plug-in.
Have to install the dcraw file first... /sbin or /usr/bin... or something like that... it has to be in your path.
