Question Rational Rose

Hallo all,

I've been told that there is a kinda software Rational Rose for modelling, and it requires UML.

Since Java could be used to draw some models, what's the necessity for such software? Does it simply offer some libraries? Is it only for visualization, not for physical simulation?

i would suggest you're better off googling for information about this software, we aren't a search engine.

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/rational/ Googling turned up that. I didnt look very hard but i'm sure you could find requirements etc.

Looks like a software development thingie.

I thought you meant 3d modelling but you meant application/software models?

You've been told wrong. Rational Rose is a software design/analysis tool, which allows you to create a design for software (to be written), for instance in the form of UML schemas (UML = Unified Modelling Language, a standard schema-based language for software design).
So, it doesn't "require" UML, it CREATES it.

It's a typical commercial Windows package though. Don't know if there's a Linux (free) alternative.

What exactly do you want to do? Create UML schemas? Read/use such schemas? Translate UML to other schema formats? ...

PS: I second acid_kewpie's suggestion that you should google & search the forums first.

Thanks timmeke for your explanation.

Actually I'm doing modelling, and googled such software. Since I'm not an IT worker, the features described on IBM portal sound like that it could be adopted for modelling.

Thanks again.
