I use UNRAR, but I run Slackware, look up in Google and see if there is UnRar for Mandriva....

You may also want to look at gpar2 and/or pypar2 for handling par files.

I thought the OP was asking about rar not par.
p7zip can also open rar as well as other formats.

Par and rar files are linked pretty closely. Par files are generally used to repair rar files.

No, but if you get a corrupt rar file(which is fairly common) you can repair the rar file with gpar2/pypar2(using par2 files) so that you can extract the rar.
