raid1 problem on booting

I have a Linux server with raid1 and hard drivers.

I want to change my hard drivers to bigger ones.
I removed sdb drive and add the new one. After that I synchronize them. Everything was fine.
I removed the other hard drive and replaced it with the other empty one.
The server could not boot.

If i remove the new empty drive everything is fine with the first new drive. How to make this drive to boot with the new empty drive together?

thanks

Is this software or hardware raid?

What error are you getting?

Finally I replaced the new hard drives, but the problem is that I need to increase array size, because the size is the same as the old drivers.

Software RAID1

Could you please help me to do that?

Thanks
